QUICK GUIDE TO SELLING FIREWORKS IN THE UK
If you’ve never sold fireworks before, then we’ve created a quick guide to the steps you need to comply with the retail requirements for the UK and Northern Ireland.
CHOOSE YOUR LOCATION
Fireworks have to be sold from a physical shop. This can be a container in a yard or a normal bricks and mortar shop. They cannot be sold from a market stall, car boot sale or other temporary sales pitch.
Once you have established a location to sell your fireworks from, the next stage is to apply for a registration to store and sell fireworks.
GET A FIREWORKS LICENCE
Whether you’re based in the UK or Northern Ireland you will need to register.
Fireworks Licensing in England, Scotland and Wales
In England, Scotland and Wales, you are required to purchase a registration to store and sell fireworks. A registration allows you to sell fireworks and store up to 250kg net explosive content (the explosive powder content of the fireworks).
There are two types of registration, one is an annual licence that allows you to sell all year round and costs in the region of £500, the other is a seasonal registration that allows you to sell fireworks at the following times: -
In England, in the metropolitan counties, ie West Midlands, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Tyne and Wear, or South and West Yorkshire, the fire service is responsible for licensing and enforcement of the regulations on storage. They are also responsible for licensing the sale of fireworks.
In other areas, the licensing and enforcement authority is normally the trading standards department of your local authority. It is also responsible for licensing the sale of fireworks.
In Scotland and Wales, the licensing and enforcement authority is normally the trading standards department of your local authority. It is also responsible for licensing the sale of fireworks.
Once obtained, your registration will be valid for one year and allow you to store and sell fireworks. We will require a copy of your license before we can sell you wholesale fireworks.

Fireworks Licensing in Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Office is responsible for licensing of fireworks premises. Just like Britain, fireworks have to be sold from a permanent structure, not a market stall, car boot sale or other non-permanent structure.
A registration license entitles you to store up to 250kg Net Explosive Content (the explosive powder content of the fireworks). It will be valid for five years from the date of issue and allows you to sell fireworks all year round. We will require a copy of your license before we can sell you wholesale fireworks.

Once your license has been approved and received, it is now time to get your fireworks stock and get your shop ready.
DECIDE WHAT TO STOCK
All fireworks sold in the UK are CE marked. These are the only fireworks you should stock in your shop, as anything else is not only illegal but also dangerous for you and your customer. All of Diamond Fireworks range is compliant with all relevant British Standards.
